A Life Less Ordinary
Spencer Preston was born in Leicester in 2010, alongside his twin sister, to teacher parents. His drumming journey began with tapping on tables and household objects—earning him the nickname Mr Bump—but it wasn’t long before his natural sense of rhythm (he was always dancing as a toddler) began to shape more purposeful beats.
At the age of four, Spencer moved abroad to Jordan. After two years there, his family relocated to Guangzhou, China, where he began formal drum lessons shortly before the Covid-19 pandemic. Lockdown meant he spent a great deal of time indoors with his electric drum kit—an unexpected opportunity that helped accelerate his progress.
In July 2020, Spencer moved again, this time to Vilnius, Lithuania. It was here that his drumming journey truly took off. He joined Ritmo studija Drumblys and, under the mentorship of Žilvinas Mikulėnas, has gone from strength to strength. In recent years, he has performed regularly at his school talent shows, taken part in the Drum Day Junior competition, and played at Street Music Day, a well-known festival in Vilnius. He has also represented his school at the COBIS Music Festival in Qatar.
Spencer doesn’t just drum solo—he plays in a band with his twin sister, who plays the bass, and they often perform together at school events.
In 2024, he attended the Open-Minded Drumming Camp in Poland, and he regularly participates in the Rock School Music Camp in Leeds.
Spencer dreams of becoming a professional drummer and thrives on performing.
